Back so soon.. No month-long gap in between blogs this time.
I guess it's illustrative of the petite période between my Paris and Lyon trips.
This one's a bit of a long'un but it's got some goodies in it..
Scream Queens on the train to Lyon feat. French guy with whom I shared the four-seater area |
We were both in the wrong seats I think. I definitely was, coz it wasn't full and I wanted more space to spread my wings. And I think he was too coz he kept looking back when new people got on the train.
But neither of us moved.
Radical rail-riders.

Got that trusty travel slug at hang |
So yeah, arrived in Lyon, met up with Liam and then we were headed to his ex-host-family's house.. where there was Netflix YES
When you want that Netflix and chill at the push of a button.. |
Françoise (the woman who we stayed with) provided us with a hearty start to the day:
Yup, a bowl of cookies for breakfast |
Brekkie set up |
Such a lovely house, and a lovely woman. Gr8 times are to be had here!
She lives in a small town called Chaponnay, just out of Lyon; had a nice chill feel to it.
And this is the outside of the house:
Lol I kid - this is just another old, rustic, french-ass house we saw |
A witch's house.. |
And then a path.. Getting some Hansel and Gretel vibes here |
Old Church and graveyard in Chaponnay |
Drizzly morning view from the church grounds |
Vogue collection in the bathroom |
Passage from bathroom to pool |
We caught the bus each day into Lyon and spent them exploring.. and eating. Another provençal chèvre sandwich is featuring. They are just too good:
Saône river |
Hills above the river, some old walls running up the hills if you look closely |
A couple of Lyonnais alleys:
This one is graced by me |
Lollies galore in Vieux-Lyon |
Definitely went a little to hard on that sugar supply lol.
Knight's armour in a little alley-end medieval store |
Caught the cable car (v Wellingtonesque!) up Fourvière Hill |
Where there's the city's Notre Dame:
And the Faux Tour Eiffel |
Notre Dame's pretty interior:
Usher would be able to caption this photo well |
Little Lyon in a panorama |
Visited a 2000 year old amphitheatre which was incredible. Like, older than Jesus.
I imagine some important ancient Romans used to hang out here. And now I'm just wandering through it.. buzzy |
We can pretend that little smudge is a cloud and not my finger. Gotta maintain my top photog rep |
The above scene depicts me sitting in the amphitheatre watching myself perform. I love it.
Walking along the Saône:
Loving the buidlings |
Ate dinner at a place called L'Œnothèque (sorta sounds like lunatic).
Got to sit up on the mezzanine bit:
Just like Kanye West, I am a God, in a french-ass restaurant Hurry up with my damn croissant |
#vogue toilet selfie at our pad |
*No shame selfie* |
I couldn't resist this selfie, despite the blemish.. the lighting in our bathroom was just 2 gud.
Went for a run.. along the path to success. |
Early morning blogging |
Massive "praline cookie" - typical Lyon thing apparently |
Went for a wander through the Parc de la Tête d'Or which doubles as a free zoo:
Golden |
Go get 'em.. lion.. No, I've got it: Why you always lion..? :/ |
This bear is ready for some banter Or to knock someone out |
Riverside afternoon |
Pizza for dins |
The barman gave us a free shot of his delish limoncello after paying |
Night time stuff |
A little shnack at the mall |
I tried on this dress in Zara, thinking it might be a cool metallic number to bust out at the next fête.
But no. I put it on and immediately imagined people yelling at me to get off the corner. So that one got put back on the rack.. Funny tho.
Clever.. |
Alleys are dangerously lined with skilled crêpe-crafters:

Busy and sunny day in a Vieux-Lyon alley |
The most beautiful scarf selection in Vieux-Lyon |
I bought a lovely scarf from here, it's pictured at the end.

Smoothie seduction? (was so dehydrated, as indicated by my dry lips) |
Poutin' with a fountain |
Had dinner at an amazing Italian restaurant with Françoise:
A bubbly red - amazing! |
My four cheese pizza :P |
Françoise says this place does the best pizzas in Lyon.
I think that would be a v fair call.
Clockwise from bottom left: Tiramisu, Floating Islands (meringues floating on crème anglaise), chocolate fondant |
Viex-Lyon at night |
One day, instead of walking further down the river, we floated:
And then disembarked downstream right by the most amazing food markets ever.
Look at olive these! |
Walking past this was such a pain.. |
Bought my first medjool dates since being in France, and damn they were fresh.
Str8 from Turkey m8.
Have since found a market in Valenciennes that sells these sweet little delights : ))
Also bought a big bag o' nuts from a table with a similar layout to the olives before.
Fellow market-goers |
Hit up the cinemas for a bit of French-dubbed film action |
Watched Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children - I didn't mind it but it was way too diff from the book to really be called the same story.
La salade feat Nutella-stuffed cookie |
Not as gooey as I'd hoped but still real good |
Eventually it was my time to leave lovely Lyon. Hopped on a bus and slept/movie-watched my way through the 10 hour slog back to Lille.
Gettin' my greens in! (smoothie and matcha macaron) |
Pretty Lillois dawn greeting me |
Waiting for train back to Val |
Dawn, French |
And then I was back from two weeks of travels, in the safety of my cozy room and snuggly IKEA duvet. Bless it.
I'll leave ya with two pics of my beautiful scarf:
Me admiring it |
And I think that based on the amount of food photos there are, you shouldn't be too surprised to hear that I've just finished sewing together a hole in the butt-area of my jeans.
It was always a wonder why they hadn't already split. Apparently it just took a few more servings of cheese to push them to breaking point..
Ah well!
